It’s October and that means it’s time to get into the spirit of the season, and obviously nothing gets you into the Halloween mood better than horror. Unfortunately when it comes to most live-action horror films, there’s only so much that can be done and shown, but thankfully of all things, Anime can cross the line with story, gore, and intriguing storytelling. So for every day this month, I’ll be featuring a unique Anime that fits the horror genre that you can most likely find on any streaming service. The freaks come out at night in Red Garden.

Red Garden (2006) takes place in New York City and follows 4 high school girls who are all from different cliques but all have amnesia from the same night. The girls soon learn that at night they will be summoned to fight monsters and will have to band together to face the truth about their new lives all the while trying to balance their current lives.

This 22 episode series is considered by some to be an “anti-anime” as the art style and character design would actually make those not familiar with the story doubt that it is one. Warning there are moments of random singing by the characters. There’s also an OVA sequel to the show but honestly, you should avoid it!
